For some reason during my upgrade, I lost all categories in my database, so bear with us ad we try to restore them.

We have a few themes that we are working kinks out that will provide a much more visually appealing site in the days to come.

Also, if you’re an RSS reader, you may have noticed a boatload of music content appear. We’re adding a music channel here at evolvor with news, bios, and other content from a good friend of mine. Stay tuned as we’ll be making an announcement on this soon.

Most of my clients already have these plug-ins installed by default, including NetConcepts’ SEO Title Tag Plug-In. By default, WordPress displays your blog’s name as the main title tag; however, to optimize your site properly we all know you need relevant keywords in your title tag.

These keywords usually differ from the name of your site, so therein lies the need for this plug-in. It allows you to add a different title tag for your home page and gives you several options to customize your sites other pages. Pick it up if your serious about search engine optimization.

Basically, the fee ($99) would be to buy a few hours of my time. I’d guide the student from domain purchase, wordpress set-up and installation, covering the basics of the software, it’s uses, how to blog etc.

I’d also cover internet marketing basics, SEM, social networking (Digg, Delcious, Technorati, etc.), analytics, RSS-the full 9. Basic stuff to get them up and running. The promotion will be called “Operation: Jumpstart” and may only be offered for a limited time. On top of that, each student will have advertising partnership opportunities down the road.

Savvy students will be able to set everything up on their own through the “Operation: Jumpstart” resource pages here at evolvor.com, which will coincide with the promotion. I don’t want to fool anyone here and want to offer anyone the opportunity to start their own site. This allows me to spend time teaching people about the wonderful world of marketing online.

I’m looking into the Wordpress GPL to make sure I’m not hurting anyone’s feelings or breaking any laws by selling my services using an open-source CMS.

Do you charge others to teach/set-up/use open source platforms? Is it “morally” okay if I do this? Thoughts please.

I was unaware that FrontPage was being discontinued, and the article goes into more specifics of that. I say good riddance (even though I learned using FrontPage). I’d rather see someone use Wordpress before building a site in FrontPage.

Blogs are meant to be written usually be one person, or one entity (as in a small team of writers who collaborate often on the same subject.) The tone of a blog can vary, but it is meant to be rather personable. While a website is designed to provide the necessary information about a company and its products or services, the blog is designed to bring a human aspect, allowing for opinions and maybe a little humor. It’s a fantastic way to communicate with both potential customers and your existing customer base, by showing a human side to the usually un-human like characteristics that accompany the computer screen a viewer is looking at.

Updated frequently, blogs are a very efficient way for a company to get the word out on just about any subject regarding not only their own company, but also their industry in general. When combined with RSS feeds and your Email Marketing campaign, you gain the advantage over others by having the ability to communicate with your audience at a very little cost.

Speaking of cost, there is a couple of different ways to set up a blog for either yourself or for your company. Several free options exist, including the Google owned Blogger.com, and the widely used Wordpress.com. These sites provide free blog pages with plenty of customizable templates that that are as simple to set-up and use as writing a document with Microsoft Word or other word processors.

Other options can be more complicated and are geared for the more advanced web developer. These software programs vary in options, but usually offer website integration as opposed to the free blog that resides on a different server.

If you’re not sold on blogs yet, let us remind you that blogs are index-able by all major search engines; most even have separate blog search options. Keyword rich blogs, along with inbound linking and constant updates are sure to achieve high search engine results for their chosen keyword phrases. A very popular website known as technorati, a blog search tool, is the place you want to be found in the blog world. Many go there to read blogs about very specific topics, which uses “tags”, or keywords that a blogger can attach to a post for the search engine to use in it’s indexing and ranking. Technorati is constantly updating, literally by the minute, with the most relevant (and most read) recent blog posts appearing at the top of its search results.

Only a fool would not be able to see the potential the blog has on this online 21st century marketplace. Adding a voice and human interaction to your companies website will only help strengthen the relationships made with your customers through the Internet. Free to set-up and easy to use, and with it’s ability to cross over into other online marketing methods, blogs are quickly becoming an important marketing and customer retention technique used by businesses all over the world.
