A Very 90’s Christmas

Since December 24 is here in a week, wow where did the time go? I decided to do an extended song of the week, or should I say songs of the week.

For some unknown reason Christmas time just makes me feel all tingly inside, just a good 90’s track. So here’s a glimpse of some classic Christmas tunes done 90’s style.

Pearl Jam – “Someday At Christmas”
: I know I’m biased, but the guys absolutely kick ass on this Stevie Wonder track. You can listen, and even download, the song right here.

Christmas With Weezer

Not that long ago Weezer did a neat little project.

The band covered six Christmas tunes for the iPhone game “Tap Tap Revenge Christmas with Weezer”. While it may not sound that amazing, just consider that this was the first time that a band specifically recorded songs for an iPhone game. I could see this very easily becoming a popular trend, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. Anyways, the game was so popular that Weezer decided to digitally release the tracks today through iTunes and Amazon for $4.99.

Weekly Wrap Up: AC/DC, Jane’s Addiction, Scott Weiland, Rivers Cuomo

Perry Farrell's Satellite PartyI’m feeling a little hungover from a Guns N’ Roses binge this week, so let’s have a quick look at what else is going on in the music world.

AC/DC and their exclusive partnership with Wal-Mart seems to be paying off. The band’s latest album, Black Ice, sold 193,000 copies on it’s first day of release, which was on October 20. The album is expected to sell around 800,000 copies by the end of it’s debut week. So far, Black Ice, is outpacing the Eagles Long Road Out of Eden, which was also a Wal-Mart exclusive. While I don’t like this exclusive deal, or Wal-Mart, it’s working for AC/DC. But, I don’t think too many other bands can pull this off. Let’s hope this doesn’t become a trend.

Weezer Break Records With ‘Troublemaker’

Weezer’s second video from their most recent self-titled release, aka The Red Album, has broken five Guinness world records.

The video, which was shot on August 21, broke the records for the largest air guitar ensemble (233 members), largest game of dodgeball (two teams of 50 each), most people in a custard pie fight (120), most people riding on a skateboard (22) and the longest Guitar Hero World Tour marathon (10 hours, 12 minutes).

While the records were obviously pointless, and some may argue it was even just a lame attempt at publicity, it goes to show that Weezer is having a blast.
