Cubane’s debut, C8H8, Set To Blow Up Your Speakers This Weekend

With a surprisingly warm Friday to start off the weekend, and because I’m just hours away from seeing Scott Weiland at the TLA, I’m in a pretty rocking mood.

Also might be because I’ve been checking out the new debut album from Newark, Delaware’s very own Cubane, entitled C9H8.

The band will be playing a local hometown show to release the album tomorrow, so it’s only fitting that I send you off with some tunes to check out over the weekend. The album should be available digitally very soon, so be sure to check out the Cubane site or MySpace page for updates.

Metallica Regains Rock Supremecy with “Death Magnetic”

Death MagneticFriday came. I woke up and walked down to the local record shop, without blinking. I found it fitting that it was raining it’s ass off. Because that’s the connection I have to Metallica. Rain, sleet, or snow – nothing was going to stop me from picking up their new album, Death Magnetic.

As I fumbled the CD open upon my return home, I couldn’t help but notice how neat the package itself was.

Metal Up Your Ass: 20 Things That You Didn’t Know About Metallica

Since today is the release of the much anticipated Death Magnetic, I thought it would be fun to share some lesser known info about the one and only Metallica.

  • James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich met after James responded to an ad Lars had placed in The Recycler, which was looking for people to jam with.
  • Lars stole the name Metallica from his friend Ron Quintana, who was starting a metal fanzine and asked Lars for help in picking a name. When Ron suggested Metallica, Lars suggested another name and he kept if for himself.
  • Metallica release video for “The Day That Never Comes”

Metallica have just released the video for their first single from Death Magnetic, which is the almost eight minute long track “The Day That Never Comes”.

The video was shot in California back in July and features the band playing fused with clips of soldiers in battle. After seeing the video I can pretty much assure fans that Metallica are indeed back. As if a lengthy track was a face melting solo wasn’t proof enough, then how about a eight minute plus video with clips of war?

Get A Sneak Peak at Metallica’s New “Cyanide”

Metallica debuted a new song over the weekend at Ozzfest called “Cyanide”. Luckily for us they released a decent-sounding stream of the song for us to pick apart before they release their first single “The Day That Never Comes” some time before the end of the month.

“Death Magnetic”, Metallica’s first studio album in 5 years, arrives in stores September 12th.

The song represents two things which, from what I’ve heard of both in discussion and from the footage seen at MissionMetallica.com, will make up the new album: a combination of tightly-produced Metallica found on albums like The Black Album and Load combined with the longer, solo-heavy songs found on earlier albums like Master of Puppets and In Justice For All.
