If you follow me on Twitter you might have gotten word that I cleaned out my blogroll over the weekend. Between two new huge jobs and my computer taking a dirt nap, it was the last thing on my mind. Luckily a few weekend hours on the couch and I sifted through 5,000 feeds to bring you some cool stuff to check out.

Dave Matthews Band Releases iTunes Pass For “Big Whiskey”

A few months ago, Depeche Mode released what I believe was the first ever iTunes pass.

Basically, this was a pre-order of their new album that featured an advance tracks in addition to exclusive content while fans awaited the release of the new album.

Well, today, DMB has released their own iTunes pass; here’s the official scoop on what you get:

We are pleased to announce the news that DMB launched an iTunes Pass earlier today! With iTunes Pass, music fans can get new and exclusive albums, songs, video, remixes, art and other content from their favorite artists over a set period of time, delivered to their iTunes library as soon as they’re available.

Peter Gabriel Launches We7

Image representing we7 as depicted in CrunchBaseMusical pioneer Peter Gabriel has now ventured into the world of free music sites.

Yesterday the former Genesis frontman launched the full version of We7, which after an initial visit to the site reminds of a nice hybrid of imeem and iTunes.

So here’s the skinny on We7. The site is ad founded, where people can listen to whatever they want for free. They can even create playlists after making an account, which is the imeem similarity. Now, here’s what’s really cool about We7. Fans can then purchase the track directly off the site if, they want to, and the musicians and rights owners of the tracks will get the money. Ah cutting out the middle man.

TuneCore.com Hooks Up Customers With iTunes Data

Got another press release for ya kids, this time from our friends over at Tunecore. This is a BIG DEAL, so pay attention:

Starting June 11, for the first time ever for independent musicians, TuneCore.com customers who have their music digitally distributed into iTunes will have access to daily sales trending reports. Through TuneCore, bands can download trending data for how many sales took place each day, by song or by album, by day, and by zip code each week a-la-carte for $2.99 a week.
