I got word that Mog.com relaunched over the weekend; here is their official press release regarding their new features and direction.
Official Mog PR:
I think you’ll agree, our new home page (http://mog.com) is now your primary destination for staying on top of what’s going on in music.
To create this page, we hand curate over 5000 blog posts a week that flow through our network, to give you the best singular page online for music lovers.
The list of new features and site improvements are endless. The design and user interface have been completely revamped allowing MOG to reclaim the online music crown as its rightful owners!! : )
It is an interesting time to be a musician. While many ask themselves, “how am I going to make money when people are just going to steal my music?”, there is an increasing number of opportunities for them to eliminate some of the marketing and distribution costs.
Actually, there’s an overwhelming number of free marketing tools online that enable artists to connect with fans. Once you break through the wall of no-brainers like MySpace and Facebook, it can be kind of intimidating with all the other networks and tools out there, especially when you run into someone like me and I geek out on you about things like Twitter.
Seems I can’t handle my blogroll like I used to, and needed a day to recoup. Here’s the rest of news and tips from my overstuffed blog reader:
If you’re not reading Bob Lefsetz “Lefstz Letter”, then pack your bags, go home and get a day job, ’cause you wont make it. Bob’s words are a priceless insight into what the hell is really going on. Some of his recent ramblings that stuck out are his views on measuring your successes, defining success based on your initial album sales, and why Pixar has hit 9 home runs in a row.
Geez, it’s been a crazy couple of weeks. I tend to work hard and also play hard, and was out of town for a couple of days to catch Pearl Jam once in Camden and TWICE in New York City at Madison Square Garden.
Seeing them live again just reinforced how badass they are and how much I adore them. They are masters at getting the crowd involved and excited, and every band looking to establish a connection with their fans needs to see them to experience this first hand.
The Word of Mouth Marketing Association just release “10 Principals to help companies to work ethically with bloggers“.
The list is basically set up for those who are unfamiliar with the blogosphere and helps them from getting burned. A blog can burn like a small fire, and if you pour the wrong “PR chemicals” on it, that fire can blow up in your face. If you’re thinking about trying to talk with a blogger about your company for PR reasons, read the guidelines so you don’t burn yourself.
Once and a while I notice that a blog in my RSS Blogroll will have an unusual amount of posts showing unread. And as always happens, I come to find out that every post that they’ve made from that last 6 months suddenly re-appears in my inbox. Now the question I ask to you is this? Why does this happen? Is it the fault of Mozilla Thunderbird, which is my RSS reader? Or is it the feed provider (Wordpress or Feedburner) that is to blame?
Via Fred “A VC”: For being a huge music fan, I still rely on word of mouth to listen to new bands and haven’t done much online other than trying services such as Napster and Rhapsody. However, I think that may change soon with sites like the Hype Machine around, a service that showcases popular music via other music blogs. Heck, maybe it’s time I start a music blog of my own…eureka!
From Andy Beal: Click Z reports on a Lexis Nexis Survey that the majority of people turn to television news programs instead of blogs.
Of course they do. Does anybody read a blog that focuses solely on breaking news? No, because we have CNN, that’s what they do. What people do use blogs for is to find out different points of view after that news is out and more facts are learned.
Until the internet and my TV become one, CNN will always be more convenient to get breaking news from than from a website. However, when I want breaking news about something other than politics, war, murder, or Terrell Owens, where will I turn to?

Weblogs, usually referred to as simply “blogs”, evolved into what we would refer to as a persons “voice” on the web. The word weblog, meaning “ a log or journal located on a web page”, pretty much sums up the definition of a blog. While a typical webpage contains information, it is often a static page that is only updated every now and then. A blog, on the other hand, is meant to be updated just like a journal, on a very consistent basis.
