Contest Submission: Angry Forest – 2 Stars (Out of 5)
The following artist is one of the participants of the Evolvor Crowdsourced Rock Compilation Contest This review is a very quick, first impression of what we thought of their submission and the data presented in their electronic press kit.
Submission: A Bunch of 30 Second Tracks!?
Angry Forest is a borderline metal band hailing from Anitoch, CA. Their bassist stands out the most upon first listening to them, which is something you rarely hear. Unfortunately they didn’t understand the rules of this contest and we were only allowed to hear 30 second clips of their material, which unfortunately affects our review; two unfavorable things did stand out.
First is their vocalist. He’s far too monotone and undecipherable for my taste. If there’s something they want to convey in their lyrics you probably won’t be able to catch it. Secondly is the quality of the recording. The volume is too low, which isn’t wise for a heavier sounding band, and the production is just overall weak.
However, they are doing a couple of positive actions that I dig. They have ringtones available on their Reverbnation store for 99 cents each. After Reverb and their affiliates take their cut, the band will be donating all profits to the Red Cross in an effort to assist Japan. That’s very admirable. Also, they’re going to give all their fans on their mailing list a free copy of their album when it’s completed. If you’ve been a frequent visitor to Evolvor than you know that that’s a must-do.
