Contest Submission: Angry Forest – 2 Stars (Out of 5)

The following artist is one of the participants of the Evolvor Crowdsourced Rock Compilation Contest This review is a very quick, first impression of what we thought of their submission and the data presented in their electronic press kit.

Submission: A Bunch of 30 Second Tracks!?

Angry Forest is a borderline metal band hailing from Anitoch, CA. Their bassist stands out the most upon first listening to them, which is something you rarely hear. Unfortunately they didn’t understand the rules of this contest and we were only allowed to hear 30 second clips of their material, which unfortunately affects our review; two unfavorable things did stand out.

Music news

First is their vocalist. He’s far too monotone and undecipherable for my taste. If there’s something they want to convey in their lyrics you probably won’t be able to catch it. Secondly is the quality of the recording. The volume is too low, which isn’t wise for a heavier sounding band, and the production is just overall weak.

However, they are doing a couple of positive actions that I dig. They have ringtones available on their Reverbnation store for 99 cents each. After Reverb and their affiliates take their cut, the band will be donating all profits to the Red Cross in an effort to assist Japan. That’s very admirable. Also, they’re going to give all their fans on their mailing list a free copy of their album when it’s completed. If you’ve been a frequent visitor to Evolvor than you know that that’s a must-do.

Hello friends! Robert Enz of Angry Forest here. Well I just want to thank Evolvor for their input. I will use this critique to improve my future endeavors. I also want to apologize for the 30 second tracks that were submitted. I didn't realize it was set up in that manor. Truthfully I'm new to using these websites to promote my music so I obviously made a mistake in using the press kit. But if you would like to hear my FULL tracks you can check them out at…

    http://www.indiemusicchannel.c…

… or join my mailing list at http://www.reverbnation.com/angryfore... or http://www.theangryforest.com (The ringtones for Japan are still available)

Since I set up the tracks as an exclusive listen and download to my mailing list at reverbnation.com, it will not play the full tracks unless you sign up. (I wonder if that has anything to do with the way my music was submitted?)

I would also like to point out a few things about the album, “Psyche”. It is a home recording I did myself on a pro tools program. I am not trained in proper recording techniques, so the recording DOES obviously reflect that. (That's why I decided to make it a free download, cuz I could never ask to be paid for a work that is less than perfect)  I did kinda rush the production tho, I was kinda excited to release it, plus I promised everyone I'd have it done by a certain time. It was taking longer than I expected. It may not be good enough material for this CD compilation,  but I think it's well enough as a home made demo.

My mission here, is just to get my name out there and to make music for people to enjoy. (or not) I do have Ideas for a second album as well as remixing “Psyche” to a better standard (Which will still be a free download, tho the current mix is still available)

Thanks again to Evolvor for this opportunity, and if I (Understandably) don't make it onto their CD I do intend to make more music, improve where I need to and keep on rockin'!

I think that these guys are true and great artists with an origionality that you don't often hear anymore in today's music! I do agree regarding “the quality of the recording” however they have a kick ass sound and I Love it!

Elvis Presley was fired after one performance and told “You ain’t goin’ nowhere, son. You ‘ought to go back to drivin’ a truck”. We all know what happened to Elvis!

The Beatles were rejected by several recording companies before they got their lucky break. The record companies told them “guitar groups are on the way out” and “the Beatles have no future in show business” and went on to sign another group who were auditioned on the same day, were local and would therefore require less traveling costs.
