Using Twitter & Google Hot Trends to Find New Things to Talk About
So I sat down with the boys from Villains Like You last night to discuss blogging strategies now that we finally have a solid design down for their new site. A lot was discussed, but one of the things that stood out was keeping up with what’s in the news and using current events as inspirations for content. What ended up happening was a discussion about a song they had just written after seeing the tornado destruction in the south, which turned into them actually scheduling studio time to record the track in a few weeks, setting up a relief fund, and more. In an hour we had taken the subject of what’s going on in the world and turned it into a solid goal for the band to focus on over the summer.
Music Industry Challenge: Doing Some “Real” Marketing For a Change
As we continue unwrapping some of the things I’ll be teaching in my upcoming music certification course, the next big topic that drive me nuts is the topic of marketing. Much like the misconceptions around the business models associated with this industry, marketing is very much misunderstood. It’s such a shame too – with all the wonderful tools we have at our disposal like Facebook and Twitter, much of the attempts at marketing by musicians today is nothing short of spamming their friends and followers to get people to pay attention to what it is they are trying to do, whether it be promote a show, sell an album, etc.
My Challenge to The Music Industry Day 1: Giving Your Music Away For Free
Unless you’ve been living under a rock this week, you no doubt probably know by now that I’ve just launched the Evolvor Music Industry Certification program, with the first class kicking off in July. I’m super excited to get my hands dirty working with new bands and artists, and know it’s going to be a lot of fun and rewarding for all participants.
There are a ton of reasons why I decided to start my own training course, and I wanted to elaborate more about them outside of the actual sales page. Over the next few days I will be offering challenges to you that I go into detail with in the course, but want to give you a taste of some of things we talk about.
Contest Submission: Castle Cruz – 5 Stars (Out of 5)
The following artist is one of the participants of the Evolvor Crowdsourced Rock Compilation Contest This review is a very quick, first impression of what we thought of their submission and the data presented in their electronic press kit.
Submission: Goodnight & Goodbye
Castle Cruz is another one man act and comes to us via New York, NY. While not necessarily a standard rock act, his music is actually very, very good. It’s beyond catchy. Just a simple foot tapper. I don’t know how else to explain it.
Contest Submission: Angry Forest – 2 Stars (Out of 5)
The following artist is one of the participants of the Evolvor Crowdsourced Rock Compilation Contest This review is a very quick, first impression of what we thought of their submission and the data presented in their electronic press kit.
Submission: A Bunch of 30 Second Tracks!?
Angry Forest is a borderline metal band hailing from Anitoch, CA. Their bassist stands out the most upon first listening to them, which is something you rarely hear. Unfortunately they didn’t understand the rules of this contest and we were only allowed to hear 30 second clips of their material, which unfortunately affects our review; two unfavorable things did stand out.
