For a band that’s been around since 1990, I expected something more solid. The music isn’t bad, it’s loud, funky and Cult-like, I’m talking about the quality of the production. Overall, this London based duo has over 5,000 fans and plays quite a bit of live shows, which is always a plus.

Submission: Operation Moon Freedom
For a three-piece band, JoeSixPack is insanely good. They’re a straight forward hardcore band with disgusting guitars, thunderous drums and smooth bass-lines. It’s hard to stand out in the Austin art scene, but these guys definitely can.

Submission: “Down Down”
This London band has a lot to offer music fans, and I mean a lot. For starters, they music is fresh and very well produced. They’re almost Muse-like, but dare I say more enjoyable at this point. They’re also self-assured (but not TOO arrogant), which is always great for a rock band. Finally, there’s seven members. Yes. I did say seven. This means that there’s a lot of different instruments to be heard.

Submission: “49 Years”
I knew that I was in for something different with a band called Infinite Monkey Orchestra. I don’t know why, but that name is just awesome. Apparently, they record their music in a basement in Chelmsford, MA, which I’m surprised about since the quality sounds superior to so many other bands who do the same. The music itself reminds my of a more crunchier Blood Hound Gang, which isn’t horrible, but not exactly my cup of tea.

One of the biggest perks of The Taken is their name. It’s simple, easy to remember and pretty much sums up the band’s melodic sound. I also like that they’re willing to jam with fellow Toledo, OH musicians, in addition to their core group of members. Their recorded music isn’t bad sounding for being self-produced, which makes me believe, that they’re serious about their music career.
