Q&A with Rou Reynolds of Enter Shikari about DIY Success and the new album “Common Dreads”
My buddy Paul and his crew introduced me to Enter Shakari almost 2 years ago with the video for “You’re Not a Winner”. With a new album due to hit the ‘States in the spring, it was cool to snag this interview from their press peeps and share it with you.
Oh, and I also snagged a copy an album/poster pack for the first reader to leave a comment. Make sure to include your email so we can send you the swag!
Wave Goodbye: A Look Back at Nine Inch Nails
Nine Inch Nails just wrapped up their Wave Goodbye tour, which is the end of NIN as a touring act, and may also be taking a break for a bit. So here’s a look back at the career of one of the most visionary groups from the 90′s.
- Michael Trent Reznor was born on May, 17 1965 in Mercer, PA.
- At age five he began playing piano.
- In 1985 Reznor moved to Cleveland and got a job as a janitor at Right Track Studio.
- While working at Right Track, Reznor recorded nine demos that would be known as Purest Feeling in 1988.
Pearl Jam’s Backspacer Rocks (of Course We’re Gonna Like It!)
During the 90′s it was routine for Pearl Jam to release a new album pretty much every other year. Now they’re going several years between albums. There was a four year gap between Riot Act in 2002 and 2006′s self-titled release and a three year period building up to Backspacer.
But it’s finally here, after months of promotion and teasing us.
There was the debut of “Got Some” on Conan’s inaugural Late Show on June 1. Then there was the storm surrounding the news that the now label-free band would exclusively release Backspacer via Target.
Billy Corgan Keeps Promise to Release Free Album
One of the things that I really dig right now about giving away free music is the poker game between artists.
When Radiohead released In Rainbows, Nine Inch Nails seemingly perfected the pay-what-you-want-format with The Slip.
Now on the heels of Radiohead giving away the track “These Are My Twisted Words”, Billy Corgan Smashing Pumpkins will raise the bar with the very ambitious Teargarden by Kaleidyscope.
The revamped Pumpkins will let fans snag the 44 track ‘album’ for free. Corgan went on to state:
ReverbNation & Audiolife bring Direct-to-Fan commerce to 450,000+ Artists & Labels
Today ReverbNation announced a partnership with Audiolife and the private Beta launch of the ‘Reverb Store’, a product that will make the opportunity of Direct-To-Fan e-commerce achievable for any Artist, Band, Label, or Manager that wants it, at no upfront or ongoing cost to operate.
The Reverb Store is a customizable, re-brandable, ‘official store’ that empowers the Artist to create unlimited virtual t-shirts, CDs, Downloads, and Ringtones with no out-of-pocket expense, and to sell those goods on homepages, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and Blogs directly to their fans. In addition, Artists can order customized items for sale at their shows, at wholesale or bulk prices.
