In this lesson I wanted to talk to you guys about tracking. In a future module I am putting together we are going to really dive into analytics and see where fans are coming from, what they are doing and how they are spending money and spreading buzz about your music. Today however, we are going to look at tracking links via URL shorteners.

Radiohead Giving Away New Song “These Are My Twisted Words”

We really like Radiohead here at Evolvor.

Obviously they make great music, but they’re also proving to be innovators in the new state of the music industry. With the release of “These Are My Twisted Words,” the band is proving that giving something away gets a lot of buzz.

The story began last week when a mysterious new Radiohead song had been leaked on some torrent sites. No one knew were it came from and the band was mum. The MP3 was even accompanied by some ASCII art that dropped some hints about the song’s origins and future, like naming today’s date. While questions were rising, there was no doubt that it was a new Radiohead song.

The Science of ReTweets: Presentation by Dan Zarrella

A few days ago I was asked to check out this great presentation on the “science” of “ReTweets” using Twitter from social media scientist Dan Zarrella.

If you’re unfamiliar with “ReTweeting”, here it is in a nutshell:

You post a message on Twitter. Then, someone else on Twitter re-posts the same message giving you credit (using @yourusername) to share with their Twitter followers.
