Pay-to-Play of Jango Echoes AdWords (And That’s A Good Thing!)

jangoFor those who aren’t too web savvy, do you know why Google blew up a few years back?

It was because of their pay-per-click ad service called AdWords and it makes them a f%$#load of money.

The service is based around businesses that target specific keywords and purchase links that run along the right hand side of search results, and they only pay when someone clicks on an ad.

This is good for businesses, because they don’t have to waste time on trying to sell to people who are not even slightly interested in their product.

Well, the same kind of approach can be taken with the radio with a service known as Jango. You purchase “plays” on their online radio service, and target specifically which kinds of artists or bands you feel you fit with. Obviously the more plays you get, the more of a shot you have of becoming a “regular” on their radio channels.

I haven’t had much of a chance to use the service, but Brian has, and he’s posted a rather insightful look into the service over at Music Think Tank, so check it out.

Anyone use Jango? Shoot us some comments on any pros/cons you might have experienced.

PS The second song I played was a sponsored one, so know that you’ll get a chance to be heard almost immediately (depending of course on how many users are targeting that band).
