Pearl Jam ‘Ten’ Re-release
As probably many of you have heard, Pearl Jam will be re-releasing their 1991 debut album Ten on March 24, 2009. The band will be re-releasing the album in four different formats, basically ranging from a package for the causal fan to a package for the uber die hard PJ fan who is willing to go bankrupt for the band.
Here’s how the packages will differ, courtesy of Pearl Jam’s official site.
When Will Chris Cornell’s ‘Scream’ Be Released?
If you’ve been keeping up to date with Chris Cornell‘s third solo Scream, then you know that this album is starting to get a little like Chinese Democracy.
OK, it’s not as bad as Axl making fans wait for over a decade, but Scream was supposed to come out on October 14, 2008. Then it received a November 4 release date, which was changed due to Election Day. After realizing that this album wasn’t going to be released in 2008, the new release date was then moved to February 3. Although, I’m a little nervous when I notice that album is listed as March 10, on most notably Best Buy. However, most sites have gone back to the February 3 date, although Amazon states that “a release date as not yet been set for this title”.
Music Bloggers and The Hype Machine Music Blog Zeitgeist
Okay fans of evolvor, here’s a quick post about getting buzz for you music that you probably don’t think is a really big deal. It’s about getting bloggers to talk about you and your music.
Now, let’s step back for a minute so you can put what I’m about to tell you in some simple perspective.
Turn back the clock to let’s say 1995. Think of the different outlets you used to discover new music. Your list should probably turn up something like this:
- Radio
- Film & TV
(mostly MTV) - Friends
- Live Shows/Concerts
- Magazines
RIP Ron Asheton: The Stooges – 1969
2009 has the potential to be an historic year, especially with the inauguration of Barack Obama on January 20. However, I’m sure that a lot of people will look back and celebrate the fortieth anniversaries of the moon landing, Woodstock, the assassination of Bobby Kennedy and the end of The Beatles. There will also be a look back at the Vietnam War and the anti-war demonstrations, which would include John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s bed-in and “Give Peace A Chance”.
1969 was also the debut of David Bowie with “Space Oddity” and album debuts from Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley & The Wailers, and The Stooges.
Spin The Black Circle: Vinyl Makes Huge Comeback in 2008
I just checked out the stats on music sales in 2008, and it may not be the end of the world for the music biz.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, music sales actually rose 10% in 2008, despite the fact that CD sales were down. Obviously, people have been continuing to go digital. Digital sales increased from 50 million in 2007 to 65 million in 2008. While that is an awesome slap in the face for the traditional minded labels, the real awesome stat was the increase in vinyl sales. Yup, you read that correctly. In fact, vinyl sales made an 89% jump from 2007 with 1.88 million sold. This was the best year for vinyl sales since Nielsen SoundScan began in 1991.
