Airborne Toxic Event – “Sometime Around Midnight”
If you just so happen to still listen to alternative stations, whether on FM or satellite, you’ve probably heard “Sometime Around Midnight” by Airborne Toxic Event. Not a revolutionary song, but it’s catchy and a breath of fresh air on radio. And, it gets stuck in your head.
What I really like about this song, and band for that matter, is how they came out of basically nowhere.
The band formed in 2006 and, with the help of the good ol’ radio dial, were able to get their names out there. By January of 2008, the unsigned band had “Sometime Around Midnight” put on regular rotation on L.A. Indie 103. Soon afterwards stations in Seattle, Boston, San Diego and San Francisco were adding the track on constant rotation as well. Then came the major labels trying to sign the band to a contract. However, they signed with indie label Majordomo Records in April of 2008 and, released their debut album the following August.
Since then more stations across the States have added “Sometime Around Midnight” to their rotations, it was featured in the flick Eagle Eye and, it even hit the number nine spot on the UK’s Billboard Modern Rock Chart.
Oh yeah, the band has also been a part of some decent festivals like Pemperton and the Toronto edition of the Virgin Festival. Not to mention that the band has already been on Last Call With Carson Daly, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and the Late Show With David Letterman.
Not to shabby if you ask me.
