Killers Working on Covers Album
With Day & Age only a few months old, The Killers are already planning their next release. Drummer Ronnie Vannucci recently told Q that the band will be working on a covers album.
Each member of the band will be choosing three tracks to cover, Vannucci has chosen Rod Stewarts’ “Young Turks” and, tracks by Genesis and Tom Waits. No other info on what the other guys are eying up just yet.
You may be thinking how are the guys going to record this album with current touring obligations? Very simple. Vannucci has landed some on-the-road recording equipment, so they can obviously record the tracks while their on tour, which is very cool.
It’s no secret that the Killers are no strangers to covers. Their version of Joy Divison’s “Shadowplay” has been a pretty big success. They’ve also covered Dire Straits’ “Romeo and Juliet” and they’ve also had some fun with Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” during live gigs.
Personally, I think the Killers are one of those rare bands that do excellent covers. The ones that are true to the original, but become their own. Something that Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters do so well. I can’t wait until they’re finished.
