Radiohead – “Nude”
So I finally got a copy of Radiohead’s In Rainbows for Christmas, and after a few spins I can say that I’m utterly addicted to the track “Nude”.
While the song may not blow people’s minds at first, it’s one of the band’s best because of it’s simplistic sweetness. Thom Yorke’s vocals are stellar as he utters “Don’t get any big ideas…they’re not gonna happen”. Meanwhile, the rest of the band backs Yorke up brilliantly with some smooth bass and drum work behind a hypnotic guitar, proving that they are the best band around. Let’s face it, these guys are our generations Beatles. Oh yeah, the song is flawless live as well, see for yourself
The song was already great, but when it came time to release it as a single they did something really cool. They offered “Nude” in different pieces so that fans could then purchase the individual pieces and remix the track and then upload it to the band’s official site. So, how well did this work? There were 2,239 remixes uploaded and “Nude” went on to break Billboard’s Hot 100, which was a first for the band in 12 years. Not too shabby if you ask me. Besides the digital single, there was also the traditional CD and 7″ singles which included the B-sides “4 Minute Warning” and “Down Is The New Up”.
Just another example of how Radiohead are breaking down barriers musically and marketing wise.
