A Look At 2009 Reunion Tours

December 2, 2008 by Albert Costill  in Concert News, MusicComment

Gwen Stefani, Stephen Bradley, and Tony Kanal ...It seems that during the last two years a lot of bands of reunited. Everyone from The Police to Rage Against The Machine to Blind Melon to Stone Temple Pilots.

With 2008 almost over a lot of bands are reuniting for 2009, some good, some bad. Here’s a quick glimpse of the bands that are giving it another round.

No Doubt. Gwen Stefani will be putting her solo career on hold to reunite with the band that her famous. The band announced at the end of last month that they will be getting back together for a reunion tour and probably a new album. They’ve already announced one tour date, which will be the Bamboozle Festival on May 3 at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in Jersey. While I’m not really a No Doubt fan, it should be interesting to hear what these guys and girl can come up with.

In further proof that there is no God, Creed are rumored to be gearing up for a 2009 reunion tour. I guess since Creed minus Scott Stapp, aka Alter Bridge, may be going on a hiatus, the guys figured why not give their bloated, pompous frontman one more go around. If this happens you’ll see me jumping off a building with arms wide open.

OK, so why may Alter Bridge be taking a break? A great question and a great segue. See Led Zeppelin may be reuniting, well kind of. Ever since the band got back together for a show at London’s O2 Arena last year, rumors have been flying of a full fledged reunion. The problem is that Robert Plant won’t be available anytime soon, so Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham are looking for a replacement. Word is that their eying up Alter Bridge’s Myles Kennedy.

Just officially confirmed is Blur. After months of speculation, the lads will be reuniting for a gig on July 3 at London’s Hype Park. The band has also hinted at some other shows in the UK, so keep your eyes and hears open. There are also rumors that Blur will be one of the headliners for this years Glastonbury Festival.

The Jesus Lizard are going to play their first shows in a decade! The original line-up will be a part of this year’s All Tomorrow’s Parties over in the UK on May 9-10. Now this is reunion worthy mentioning.

Legendary rockers the Faces will also be reuniting for a tour in 2009. The band will feature original members Rod Stewart, current Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood and Ian MacLagen. It’s rumored that the one and only Flea will be taking over bass duties. Never really been a Rod Stewart fan, so I think I’ll pass on this one.

Here’s a look at some rumored reunions for 2009.

The Smiths have had reunion offers for years, including the ridiculous $75 million offer for Morrissey and Johnny Marr to reunite for a 50 date tour in 2008-2009. Some say this was a hoax, but there has been some talk that the lads will reunite for the 2009 edition of Coachella. However, Marr has said that this is “rubbish”. This could be pretty cool, bit I really can’t see it happening. Morrissey has his solo career and Marr seems to be enjoying his time with Modest Mouse.

Blink 182 are said the be talking again after Travis Barker’s plane crash back in October. Seems that the guys have realized how short life is and could say why the fuck not. With Barker and Mark Hoppus still in a band together, +44, all they would need is nasally frontman Tom Delonge. So this really isn’t that far fetched. However, Delonge has Angels & Airwaves going on right now. Oh yeah, Barker also denied a reunion, so I guess that’s that.

Faith No More are rumored to be reuniting for some shows in the UK this spring, but right now, it’s only a rumor. While this would be sick, I can’t see it happening. Patton keeps pretty busy with his label Ipecac, as well, the numerous projects he’s in, like Tomahawk. And, I don’t know if guitarist Jim Martin would be willing to leave his pumpkin patch. Oh well, let’s hope they will someday.

Fucking Creed haters. I’m going to be front and center of that show ;)

Smiths reunite? Never gonna happen, Morrissey is a fucking prick. I mean i love him for being one, don’t get me wrong, but I see him spitting in their faces before ever reuniting, especially just for a paycheck.

How the hell did Myles get the Led Zepplin gig? Where did this dude come from, out of nowhere to team up with ex-Creed a few years ago and now fronting Zep? How cool is he?

I would pay 1 Million dollars to see Faith play their album Angel Dust in its entirety live. Best rock album of all time.

Hope Blink 182 does reunite. And all die in a plane crash (blame Wilson it’s his fault I hate them).

Sorry Joe it’s an inside joke about my hatred for Blink’s music. I have this thing called a sense of humor, maybe a little dark sometimes. I hope I get murdered too that would be awesome!
