We Baracked The Vote!
During the 2004 Democratic National Convention, I saw a speech by some guy whose name I could not pronounce.
Like so many other people, I was absolutely moved. There was something about him that made me think that this man was going to be big. In my wildest dream I would have never imagined that Barack Obama would become the 44th President of the United States of America.
You don’t have to be a political analyst to figure out how this happened. Obama perfectly utilized technology to spread his message, and most importantly, gain supporters. By using social network services and hitting the road with a meaning, Obama rose from a community organization in Chicago to the leader of the free world, by almost following the format that Eric has been doing here at Evolvor.
While I don’t want to go off on a political rant, this historic election meant a lot. It shows that a grassroots organization can get you anywhere. It is also going to rewrite textbooks. There can’t be enough said about how historic this election was. It still sends a chill down my spine. Finally, it gives not only America, but the rest of the world, something we’ve been lacking…hope. America has been in an overcast for the last eight years. But, today the clouds are blowing away, and the sun is starting to shine.
Whether or not President-Elect Obama will fix the country, his image is enough to give us all a sense of this hope. If you need proof, like at the celebrations across the world that took place after his victory. The optimism of the crowds brought tears to my eyes.
I already love reliving the moment.
