MTV Back to Basics with New Music Video Site

An early MTV station IDMTV recently woke up from the nightmare that is reality TV by unveiling a new music-video-only website that brings back the reason we ever started watching in the first place – the music video.

Head over to MTVMusic.com to check out videos new and old, and share them with friends ala YouTube.

The difference? Aside from having a more attractive video player, these videos are not user-submitted; MTV has the deals to get the videos up legally.

The good? The vids won’t be taken down the next day, which often happens on YouTube.

The bad? I don’t see anywhere where an indie label can upload their own vids, or an indie band. I know that would make things a little of a pain in the butt as far as copyrights are concerned, but maybe MTV will figure it out so the little guys can get on their channel as well.

Check out their player below; I’ve chosen a favorite Cure song to celebrate the release of their new album, 4:13 Dream, on sale today.

I think this is great, for the points you brought up. I think another perk would be the quality of the videos should be better than most that are posted on YouTube.
