Weekly Wrap Up: AC/DC, Jane’s Addiction, Scott Weiland, Rivers Cuomo

Perry Farrell's Satellite PartyI’m feeling a little hungover from a Guns N’ Roses binge this week, so let’s have a quick look at what else is going on in the music world.

AC/DC and their exclusive partnership with Wal-Mart seems to be paying off. The band’s latest album, Black Ice, sold 193,000 copies on it’s first day of release, which was on October 20. The album is expected to sell around 800,000 copies by the end of it’s debut week. So far, Black Ice, is outpacing the Eagles Long Road Out of Eden, which was also a Wal-Mart exclusive. While I don’t like this exclusive deal, or Wal-Mart, it’s working for AC/DC. But, I don’t think too many other bands can pull this off. Let’s hope this doesn’t become a trend.

Jane’s Addiction reunited once again, with it’s original line-up, last night
. The band played at the 390 seat capacity La Cita in L.A. The band reunited early this year for the NME Awards, which was the first time the line-up of Perry Farrell, Stephen Perkins, Dave Navarro, and Eric Avery had played together in 17 years. Who knows if this will lead to anything more, especially this on again and off again reunion talk from the band members themselves, but let’s hope it does.

STP is wrapping it’s reunion tour, unfortunately without drummer Eric Kretz whose father recently passed away, so best of luck man. In the meantime Scott Weiland isn’t too sure about the band’s future.

He isn’t too happy that they may still be under contract with Atlantic Records, which could turn him off from recording a new STP album. OK, I know Scott can be a a little bitch sometimes, and I understand that they still need to fulfill a contract with Atlantic, but I can’t blame the guy. Atlantic really fucked STP over towards the end. They gave them practically no promotion and left them out to dry. Also, if Atlantic really wanted STP fulfill their contract, then they could have released a b-sides album and/or a live album. But, STP doesn’t have the financial pull that they once did.

OK, moving, slightly. Weiland also scrapped a tour that was to begin in November, but it will take place in January. You can find tour dates right here. Oh yeah, his second solo album Happy In Golashes will be released on November 25, the same week as Chinese Democracy

And finally, Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo will be releasing a second volume of demos, simply entitled Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo, which will be released on November 25. Shit, I pretty start putting some cash away.

Anyways, I’m looking forward to this, as I enjoyed the first volume, which was weird, funny and sad at the same time. I always love hearing what bands threw away.
