Kings of Leon – “Sex on Fire”
Somewhere in between my current rotation of Radiohead, The Killers, Bruce Springsteen and of course my Pearl Jam fix, the Kings of Leon have snuck in with “Sex on Fire”.
“Sex on Fire” is the first single from the band’s upcoming fourth studio album Only By The Night, which comes out this Tuesday (September, 23). The song is currently enjoying the top spot on the UK singles charts. And, it’s getting some decent play on alternative stations here in the States.
When I first heard “Sex on Fire” a while back, the initial thought was how great it would sound live. A rather strange thought for me. I usually listen for a specific lyric or a particular note. But, nonetheless, it was immediately tattooed in my ears.
The funny thing about “Sex on Fire” is that frontman Caleb Followill didn’t really care for the track. He told NME that he didn’t even want to record the song at first. He even said that it was “terrible”.
So, here’s a lesson kiddies.
If you think you have a terrible song, don’t be so quick to write it off. Let the fans be the judge of that. “Sex on Fire” is doing wonders for Kings of Leon. Another example is Radiohead with “Creep”, even though they act like Pablo Honey never existed. “Creep” has become a staple on any 90′s alternative playlist, and I’m sure that “Sex on Fire” will be the same for the current alternative scene.
