Smashing Pumpkins G.L.O.W, Weiland Gets ‘Happy’ & Ben Folds Five Reunite
Here’s a quick rundown of news that some readers here might find interesting, cause I sure as hell do.
The Smashing Pumpkins will release a new track entitled “G.L.O.W. exclusively through the upcoming Guitar Hero: World Tour . The new track, along with the tracks “1979″ and “The Everlasting Gaze”, will be part of Smashing Pumpkins package. As if that wasn’t enough, Billy Corgan will grace us all with his chrome dome as a playable character when fans attempt the classic “Today”. I may not be a huge fan of Corgan, but this is a great way to release singles now. I don’t think any of us can question the success of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, so this is a smart move on Corgan’s part.
Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has set a release date for his second solo album, entitled Happy. The album will drop on November 18 through Weiland’s own Softdrive label. Happy was produced by Steve Albani, who has produced albums for Nirvana and the Pixies, and will feature appearances by No Doubt members Tony Kanal (bass), Tom Dumont (guitar) and Adrian Young (drums). Weiland will reportedly also tour in support of the album. I may get shit for this, but I can’t wait. I pretty much like everything Weiland has done, so why not this?
Finally, Ben Folds Five will be reuniting for MySpace’s “Front To Back” series, which will feature band’s performing entire albums. The trio will perform 1999’s The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, which was also their final album. The show will take place on September 18 at Chapel Hill, NC. Tickets will go on sale September 8 with proceeds going to Operation Smile. Don’t know what to add about this, except that it’s pretty cool.
