Metallica release video for “The Day That Never Comes”
Metallica have just released the video for their first single from Death Magnetic, which is the almost eight minute long track “The Day That Never Comes”.
The video was shot in California back in July and features the band playing fused with clips of soldiers in battle. After seeing the video I can pretty much assure fans that Metallica are indeed back. As if a lengthy track was a face melting solo wasn’t proof enough, then how about a eight minute plus video with clips of war?
Metallica frontman/guitarist James Hetfield told MTV that the video isn’t making any political statements about the war in Iraq, instead, it’s “putting the human element in what is an unfortunate part of life”. Hetfield also said that he never envisioned the video turning out the way it did when he was writing the lyrics for “The Day That Never Comes”. He elaborated by adding “That’s the beauty, I think, of writing vague but powerful lyrics — that someone like a movie director can interpret it in his own way and obviously, someone creative is able to take the metaphors and apply them to whatever he needs in his own life”.
You can watch the video right here.
In related news, Metallica are currently streaming the studio version of “Cyanide” at the their official site. The track, which is also from the upcoming Death Magnetic, premiered at this year’s Ozzfest in Dallas. Until now the live debut of “Cyanide” was the only version fans could hear. The track will also be available on iTunes sometime today (Sept. 2).
