Live From New York, it’s Pearl Jam’s Saturday Nights!

Al did a great post last year about Pearl Jam’s Late Show With David Letterman appearances, so I thought I’d rip the idea from him and entertain you with the band’s Saturday Night Live appearances.

Alive
Note Stone’s girly-ass hair-do, and look for a Jeff Ament who had too much coffee towards the end of the song.
1994 Rehersals
Al just told me as I was writing this post that the ‘94 performance happened right after the death of Kurt Cobain, and Vedder nods to him by singing parts of the song American Pie by Don McLean at the end of Daughter, a song which itself was written in honor of 3 musicians who died in a plane crash (Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Ritchardson.)

Rearview Mirror
Not For You
The band has appeared in later SNL episodes, but alas I couldn’t find the vids. Hopefully NBC will see this and throw them up on the SNL site someday soon.

Great post brother. Man, I'm sure as shit glad that Stone cut his hair, he looks silly. Jeff is just as nuts as Eddie and Mike tears the roof.
Just an FYI, the videos got taken down from YouTube, but imeem has the audio for them. Also, the tribute to Kurt during “Daughter” was during the “Hey Hey My My” tag, cause in his suicide note he quoted the line “it's better to burn out than fade away” from Neil Young's “Hey Hey My My (Into The Black)”.
Still a great post though!
