Stone Temple Pilots – Hollywood Bitch
It’s official – STP is back on my dial like it’s 1999 again. And you’re just going to have to deal with it.
I have some interesting commentary I’ll be sharing with you soon, especially about the bands latter albums.
I’d like to get into the marketing side of these albums and maybe offer some ideas on how i would market them in today’s digital landscape.
Here’s the second single from the band’s last album Shangri-La De Da, “Hollywood Bitch”.
Rolling Stone Discusses State Of Music Industry
And it sounds very similar to the same stuff me and my music blogging friends have been saying for months now. It’s nice to have the biggest mag in music reinforce that.
Musicians & Social Networking: Why You Need To Be Everywhere
A big thanks to Greg Rollett from Rollett Music Marketing for contributing this awesome guest post!
I gave a talk this weekend at BarCampOrlando about Music, Media and Money.
I was in front of a crowd full of Social Media enthusiasts, Developers and lastly a handful of actual musicians, podcasters and audio book producers.
I ran through the hot topics of the present:
- Trent Reznor vs. Radiohead
- DRM vs. DRM free
- iTunes vs. Amazon vs. Myspace Music
- Facebook pages
- Blogging
- And a slew of others
Why Automated Music Submission Services DON’T Work
Over the past year studying the various forms of music promotion online, one thing that I see here and there is automated music submission services.
In a nutshell, these are services that send your press release or press kit to music related places all over the ‘net – music blogs, online radio stations, music journalists, etc.
Now, some of these services provide you with the ability to target the blogs and radio stations that they submit to – which is the whole point of marketing online, to find your specific audience and get them to notice you.
The problem I see with these submission services is that they really are not effective – and I can attest to this as a blogger.
Stone Temple Pilots – Wicked Garden
With STP getting pumped up for a 60+ tour over the summer, and the news that ol’ Scottie just got kicked out of Velvet Revolver, it’s a safe bet that STP is back and here to stay. Let’s go back in time with the video for “Wicked Garden”, off the band’s debut album Core.
Interview In Spark Weekly
I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Spark Weekly, as the featured profile in this week’s music issue.
I had the chance to briefly discuss the importance of sharing things with your fans through blogging, and hope the local bands in the area that I have yet to work with gain some insight into how to build an audience – and hopefully check out my services in the future
You can read the full interview here.
A big thanks again to Rob and Jessica from Spark!
Rick Rolled: Viral Music, April Fool’s Style
I loved seeing that everyone jumped on board and did some fun things for April fool’s today. Perhaps the best was Youtube UK changing all their featured videos to, you guessed it, Rick “Rolled” Astley’s 1987 Hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”.
In case you’ve never been “rick rolled” before, it’s a pretty hilarious internet meme that’s been going on for quite some time.
Basically, people trick each other into clicking links to something, and instead of going to the page they expected, they get this silly video.
