Why I Blog

Bill Slawski tagged me in the blogosphere’s latest tag game, so here we go…

1. To prove my expertise – the more I blog about music, marketing, art, and the web, the more people will take me seriously when they land on my site. I could just have a page listing my services or a page with some jobs I’ve done, but is that really effective? Maybe, but throw 8 months of blogging about my industry at least 3 times a week and all of a sudden I look a little more credible (or absolutely crazy!).

2. To have a voice – everyone reads the news or reads other blogs, and usually has something to say about a subject, but doesn’t have a serious outlet to get their voice out there. Blogging gives me the ability to be my own news and use my own voice to talk about what I want to talk about. And it’s all mine.

3. To make a buck – yeah that’s right I came out and said it. I don’t make a zillion dollars of of this blog, but someday it will pull in a decent amount of revenue through selling advertising. I run a business and every good business has multiple streams of income; the blog can be one of them. The more money I can make off ad money, the more I can help people build their own blogs, which I usually do for dirt cheap or for no pay at all. Starving artists need blogs, too.

4. To motivate – I have a small network of sites that I’ve been working on with different people for some time now. I’m waiting for them to reach a certain status before doing any promotion. If I don’t blog, then why should they? I am a leader whether I like it or not and have to maintain this blog so others will see the benefits and keep up with their own blogs; I set the standard.

5. To not be stupid – blogging keeps me in the loop and on top of everything. In this biz, you HAVE to be blogging and making a name for yourself. I’ve come to far to just stop now, and everyday I blog is another day to touch someone new, grab a new client, or create a new opportunity. If you’re out to promote a product, service, or just an idea, you have to be blogging; if you’re not, I can guarantee someone else is.

Let’s tag some other bloggers!
